Tava Health supports individual care for family members and dependents, including minors ages 13–17. Each family member must create and use their own Tava Health account with a unique email address to protect privacy and ensure individualized access to care. This guide explains how dependents can sign up for Tava, including how to select the employer or sponsor that provides the benefit, how to enter the employee or member name tied to that coverage, and what minors and families should know before completing setup.
Before You Start
Have the following ready before you begin:
- Your name, date of birth, and personal email address.
- The name of the employee, sponsor or primary policy holder through whom you receive coverage.
- The primary policy holder’s date of birth.
- Your insurance provider, your relationship to the primary policy holder, and your member ID.
Step 1: Create Your Tava Account
- Go to care.tavahealth.com/signup to begin signup.
- Enter your basic information, including your name, date of birth, and personal email address.
- Confirm your email address and create your password.
Step 2: Complete Your Account Setup
After creating your login, finish your profile setup by adding your phone number, address, gender, and an emergency contact.
Step 3: Add the Employer That Covers Your Benefit
When Tava asks how you want to pay for therapy, you will be prompted to add coverage options for your sessions.
- If applicable, add the employer as the sponsoring organization before adding insurance.
- If you are covered as a dependent, choose the option that matches how you receive coverage:
- Through my spouse or domestic partner, or
- Through my parent or legal guardian.
- Enter the name of the employee through whom you are accessing the benefit.
Step 4: Enter Insurance as a Dependent
After sponsor setup, add your insurance details.
- Select Someone else if the insurance is under another person’s name.
- Enter the primary policy holder’s name and date of birth.
- Enter the insurance provider, your relationship to the primary policy holder, and your member ID.
Step 5: Wait for Insurance Verification
Tava will run a quick insurance check to confirm your coverage.
- In most cases, verification takes less than 30 seconds.
- If verification takes longer, you can continue signup and Tava will follow up by email once verification is complete.
- If your insurance is still pending, it will appear on the Billing page of your profile.
Step 6: Complete the Remaining Signup Steps
Once your coverage information is entered, continue through the rest of onboarding:
- Complete your mental health assessment.
- Choose your therapy preferences and availability.
- Review your provider matches.
- Schedule your first session by choosing a session type, date, and time.
- Review your provider’s policies and add a credit card for late cancellation or no-show fees.
- Confirm the appointment to finish setup.
Special Instructions for Minors
If the Dependent’s Age is 13–17
Minors ages 13 to 17 must have their own separate Tava account and their own unique email address.
- Create the account using the minor’s information and email address.
- Enter the minor’s date of birth during signup.
- When prompted, enter a parent or guardian email address.
- The parent or guardian must review and sign the digital Minor Consent Form before the minor can schedule therapy.
- Once consent is complete, the minor can browse providers, schedule sessions, and access care through their own account.
If the Dependent Is Under 13
Tava does not offer individual therapy for children under 13.
Children under 13 can participate in family therapy through the parent or guardian’s account, and they do not have a separate Tava account for this setup. Learn more in Therapy Options for Minors.
Common Issues to Avoid
- Do not use the parent’s or guardian’s email as the dependent’s login email for minors ages 13–17. A separate email address is required to set up the minor’s account.
- If you are signing up as a dependent, make sure you enter the employee or primary policy holder information when prompted during sponsor setup and insurance setup.
- If dependent coverage does not appear to work, confirm that the employer or insurance plan includes dependent eligibility, since coverage rules vary by plan.
