If you go by a name other than your legal name, you can add a preferred name to your Tava profile during intake or after account creation. Your preferred name will be used throughout your Tava experience and shared with your provider, while your legal name stays on file for billing and insurance purposes.
During account creation
When creating your Tava account at care.tavahealth.com/signup, enter your legal first and last name as well as your preferred name and pronouns when prompted.

Update preferred name after account creation
- Log in to your Tava account at care.tavahealth.com/login
- Navigate to your Personal Info page
- Next to your name, click "Edit"
- Enter what you would like to be called in the "preferred name" box. Do not change your legal name unless it is incorrect.
- Save your changes
Update pronouns after account creation
- Log in to your Tava account at care.tavahealth.com/login
- Navigate to your Personal Info page
- Scroll down to the "Preferred Pronouns" section and click "Edit"
- Select your preferred pronouns from the dropdown, or enter a custom value.
- Save your changes
Your preferred name will now appear throughout the app and will be visible to your provider.
FAQs
Will my provider see my preferred name? Yes. Once you set a preferred name, your provider will see it in their view of your profile and in appointment-related screens. We encourage you to also let your provider know directly if you'd like them to use your preferred name.
What's the difference between my preferred name and my legal name? Your legal name (the name used during signup) is kept on file for billing, insurance claims, and official documentation. Your preferred name is what's displayed throughout your Tava experience and shared with your provider for day-to-day use.
Will my legal name change if I add a preferred name? No. Adding a preferred name does not change your legal name on file. If you need to update your legal name, please contact us at client-support@tavahealth.com or you may do so yourself in your profile.
What pronoun options are available? You can select from: She/Her, He/Him, They/Them, She/Them, He/Them, Prefer Not to Answer — or enter a custom value.
Is this information private? Your preferred name and pronouns are shared with your provider and with Tava support staff. They are not shared with third parties or insurance providers.
